Durango, CO & Writing with Bob Rea 08/27/2012
After playing all over the place and battling some southwestern heat in August through Arizona, I drove up to Durango, CO to meet up with a buddy of mine, Bob Rea, to case out the town and do some writing.
Bob and I met a few years back at a songwriters conference in Broomfield, CO and have loosely kept in touch, reconnecting at that same conference each year. It turns out that Bob has a pad in Nashville, TN and when I moved there back in late March, he was kind enough to put me up (still is), and show me around town. Along the way, we ended up writing a bit, and the more familiar we both became with one another’s styles, the more creative we became, and the more songs we wrote. It’s been a fun collaboration, and any excuse to hang with Bob for a few days on the road in his home town out in Colorado seemed like a no brainer. So, off I went!
The visit sort of went like this: We wrote. And then we wrote some more. And this continued for two days until we tidied up a few things we’d been working on and then started and finished a really killer tune that, honestly, I just can’t wait to demo out or, shoot… record for myself! By then, I think his wife was ready to get Bob back to herself for a while, so I pulled out of town and hit the road to my next destination in Vail, CO for a house concert, some hiking, climbing, and R&R with some family members after a long run out there on the road.
If you’ve got some time, click over to Bob’s site at www.bobreamusic.com and check out his songs. He’s got a great, folk/roots vibe. If you’re into what you hear, and you see a chance to hear him live, definitely do yourself a favor and go. While I love his records, his live performances really hit home.
