Yoshi’s San Francisco
Last night, I played the legendary Yoshi’s jazz club in San Francisco along with two other singer/songwriter types, Matthew Stewart (San Francisco) and Lindsey Yung (San Diego). We had a great turn-out, thanks to the support of a ton of my SF friends and fans. For a cold, grey, Sunday night, the downstairs lounge at Yoshi’s in San Francisco was packed and, more importantly, quiet and attentive. I haven’t seen a venue in San Francisco yet that came close to matching the vibe for singer/songwriters I experienced last night. It almost felt like I was in LA at Room 5 Lounge or Genghis Cohen. People were quiet, respectful, and just all around awesome! I definitely am looking forward to playing there again.
Joining me on stage was Boone Spooner on the cajon (who did an amazing job on his maiden cajon voyage) and, for the second of three sets, Rich Armstrong on horn. I say “horn” because every time I turned around, Rich had a different kind of trumpet, flugle horn, or some other wacky reincarnation of the trumpet or some zany brass instrument in his hands. The steady constant was that, whatever he was playing, he absolutely KILLED it. It’s funny… with Boone up there laying down some crazy beats and with Rich tearing up the horn, it felt like we owned the joint with a full band, but it wasn’t – it was just an acoustic guitar, one voice, one cajon, and one horn. Excuse me, but I think I just found the perfect touring setup!
Thanks to everyone, friends, fans, regulars, and newbies alike for coming out to Yoshi’s last night. It was a great time and certainly a show to be remembered. Thanks for your support and see you next time! Don’t forget, if you’ve got a television, be sure to turn on CBS this Saturday, November 28th to watch us play live on national television on “The Early Show”. It’s going to be a great time and we look forward to waking up America, one television set, one time zone at a time.
