Writing & Recording in My Kitchen Studio
I’ve been busy lately writing and recording some new ideas here at my home studio. Well, actually, my studio is really a mobile, compact setup that generally sits somewhere between my kitchen table and my bedroom where my amp and my Rhodes electric piano are. In any case, I’ve discovered that you don’t need too much to record some good sounds at home for songwriting and arrangement purposes. Along those lines, my setup is basically a MacBook Pro, a Lauten Audio Horizon microphone, an MBox 2 Pro, and Pro Tools 8. Of course, I’ve got my Taylor Guitars, Elixir Strings, Fender Rhodes keyboard, and my midi keyboard (and an assortment of some hand percussion), but that’s the mini setup at a glance.
I’m happy to say that it’s been going well! I’ve got two new tunes this week that I’m touching up, but am really happy with ‘em. I’ll be debuting those soon at an upcoming show to crowd test them, so to speak, but I’m pretty psyched on them as they stand. If you want to hear some of the tracks from “Something Out There” and some of my other newer tracks in a trio format (and you’re in San Francisco, CA), swing on by Rockit Room tonight, May 28th from 9pm to 10pm and rock out with us! Otherwise, have a great weekend, everyone!
